Well, I've just finished this rascal and have to say, great clues, however, I'm missing something on two clues if anyone can put me right with the wordplay.

54a) Advanced, as was rival denied one after returning prize? (7)

I have E - O - V - D
I feel it must be 'Evolved' (advanced)
as was rival (vied) ? denied one (minus i) v(i)ed
after returning prize - Evol - love?
Don't get the 'Love' ref

10d) Art worthy of being serious (7)

I have E - R - E - T
Must be 'Earnest' = Serious?
Explanation welcome

Cheers Les40

Ah! thanks guys.
I was thinking to much of the noun 'prize' and not the verb 'to love' or prize someone or something

I thought of 'art' being old English meaning 'are' but couldn't find anything saying 'are worthy'

Thanks to you both, I'm ready for some pillow time now.

Goodnight, I prize you very much!
