I have solved nearly all the clues except the 7 thematic ones. Can anyone give a hint as to how they work?

The hint is given by the extra letters/words.

Unfortunately the few clues I haven't managed to solve are the ones which complete the hint. so I have "...and insert in..... ", followed by something about numbers.

Consider extras in clues 16, 17, 19 and relate to the Wikipedia link.

You will get a string of letters that appear random between 27ac and 5dn. They are not. It may help to compare the title and the final thematic clue given by last dn clues

I now have everything except the wordplay for 34 across and the puzzle's title. Although it would be nice to know, I'm not too fussed about the wordplay since I'm pretty sure I have the right answer, but a hint about the title would be appreciated.

The context for the title may be quite obscure to any non-British solvers as it is a game that's been around for a long time, featuring property dealing.

If you mean what I think you mean, planks, it was originally an American game, I think.
