This one was not so easy - never heard of 4d or 14a. Still can't figure out my answer to 21a but it all fits in so presume it's right. Suffering with a bad cold, achey, sore throat, chesty cough and feeling a bit poorly - aahhh!!! Dosing myself up with paracetamol, cough sweets and remains of the chocolate gingers!! Will be ok for the RT for a while Jazzgirl as I managed to get 12 issues for £1.

Hi butterfly
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

21a most of it is a name for a type of leg (on a piece of furniture); the whole is a type of car.

That was a really obscure hint!

Have you heard the story of the man taking a short cut through the cow field when his hat blew off? He tried on twenty before he found the right one.

Thanks Chrise - enjoyed the joke, but "Rene" is still too obscure, something about Allo Allo ?
Brain not functioning yet, still in holiday mood

Hi Devonian - the Defn is cap. Think of a plant which produces most of our sugar and grown in fields with the source of (r)ate inside..
