NB. A lost letter has to be reinstated in some clues before solving. Also, two answers exceed their allotted space (letter count is entry length) and we have to find a way to accommodate them. I don't know if either of these clues is affected. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for that, nick - and thanks again, Chris, for your original answer. I shouldn't have been so suspicious re words having 'j' and 'k' in the middle!

I can't figure out how to follow the instruction at all. Is it just the letters that occur in TRAFFIC or the whole motto? Is each letter used just once or is it every time it occurs? I only have two Hs in the grid so I don't how HI HI HI comes into it.

Ignore the above - I miscounted the Hs. Done now although not quite sure how to resolve the two that are too long to fit in. I can see how the across word relates to the leading light but not the down one (assuming it is meant to).

Finished now. It's funny how posting here suddenly concentrates the mind.

Could you shed light on it for the rest of us? Fairly confident I know what shape we're after but no way do those letters lead to it.
