The paragraph below is a copy of a brief article in today’s Times.
A book to mark the 100th anniversary of the crossword has been published. Two Girls, One on Each Knee, by Alan Connor, a crossword expert, includes clues such as “Tory in Lab disguise” (4, 5). The answer is Tony Blair, an anagram of “Tory in Lab”. The first crossword was set by Arthur Wynne, from Liverpool, for “The New York World” paper in 1913.
I don’t know if the book’s title is a crossword clue but, if it is, it’s got me beaten!
I cannot recommend the book because I haven’t got my hands on a copy yet but it certainly sounds very interesting and a good idea for a last minute Christmas present if you’re stuck.
I have just asked Father Christmas for a copy and he has told me that he should be able to get one from Amazon in time for Christmas Day.
