Across: 14, 36, 42, 47
Down: 8, 20, 23, 32, 35

I know these are a lot, but any solutions would be helpful!!
Thanks :)

Hi Puzzled, I'm off to bed in a minute but can spare you a bit of help before.

I took ages to get the theme with this one.

The 14a is crossing with modified answers but the letters to enter are 3 of 5 of a word that means a Corolla.
36 - word for 'went back' as Hair does
42 - anagram , Scottish hillside
47 - Think of a film about a vampire with a very famous black actor (made three film trilogy)
Down
8- Is off is the Def, sleeping
20 - word for 'True' with a bit missing
23 - anag of siege & sex
35 - a kind of produce (veg) / Two letter word for adequate + two letter name of a God

Hope that helps, Les40

Thanks les!
I'm still utterly confused, except for the vampire one. I figured it was an anagram for siege and sex but all I got was six geese?? I'm telling you, not so good at these...

I appreciate the help! I suppose it's not really appropriate to just ask for answers? :-)

Yeah, it's not a common word

E - E - E - I -

That's all the vowels in the right places.

Goodnight for now pal

Wow, Les.

Your answer re 47A was something I wasn't familiar with. Don't do the vampire thing. I thought my parse was sufficient, but the modern cultural angle obviously worked.

@puzzled11 - welcome to Harper's. A good intro to cryptics. The occasional Americanism.
It's usually a bit easier than this, but sometimes not.

Back issues are available here (hope the link works):

The later ones are available via Google Drive. Some of the earlier ones at Dropbox had broken links which is why I switched. If you can't find one just launch a thread & I'll post a new link.
Most puzzles also have an annotated solution.
