The answer I have is the right length & corresponds to the first 3 words, it's in Ch also as a verb, but "one" in the clue would only explain the first 2 letters, and it has nothing to do with Xmas!

Remove the last two words from the clue read it slowly- this might help.

Yes Greedy- I had that answer first of all- but I couldn't quite parse it. The first two letters work but the rest? I assume it maybe just a play on words rather than something that is a strict cryptic.

The second answer I came up with doesn't feel right though.

I can now imagine a solution to # 1, but it may well not be the only way of describing the phenomenon --- indeed an alternative, just as valid, occurs to me immediately! Do you have one you find uniquely appropriate?

Apologies Jazzgirl- I think that they are not fair if you intend to pass of the work as your own.

If you only got the answer because of a hint then it submitting answers at 5pm you should make that clear.
