Sorry, no.
Hint # 2: it's not the sort of game you play, more the kind you could possibly eat (the answer is a noun).

Oh, so you were once a psychiatrist, right? (said he, not daring to ask personal questions).

Yes please GK - I will need to concentrate on cooking soon, but still should be able to look in.

That's intriguing, Rosalind!

Dear Chris,

As you may be struggling all alone, & time's getting on, second hint:
the first 4 letters (not at all in the spirit of Nelson Mandela) form a piece of derogatory South African slang for a (black) person: it's in Bradford's!

..............and in Chambers (2 alternative spellings).
And so that your cooking doesn't suffer, here another hint:
the last 3 letters sound like the ball targeted in bowls (possibly more up your street than mine)!

kaffir springs to mind.

I don't have Bradford's - perhaps I should try to contact SLH (who seems to be very busy at the moment)

muntjac?

I once went to a weekend birthday celebration that included a cryptic menu. One course was "a garden pest". We were relieved when it was muntjac rather than slug!

OK another hint: the whole is a kind of deer found in England (in the book even very near London).
btw Bradford's is well Worth investing in: I'd be lost nowadays without it. PB version relatively affordable.
