Hi Smudgy,
I've just logged on and noticed your posting!

77d (3)....Clue 'Male child'....I've put 'Boy' as the answer, using the logic that the clue for 'Son' would have to be 'Male offspring!'

Having said that, the Daily Record crossword setter isn't big on logic as has been demonstrated many times before!

I believe it is quite common in the crossword for two possible answers to fit - you think they might have a vacancy for a new setter by now. :-)

i'd go with Boy - a son can be an adult - but i think the clue is so ambiguous that either should be excepted, no?

Hi Trevor and Mamya,

On many occasions, I've identified at least 2 or 3 possible answers for a given clue in the Saturday Daily Record...each of valid currency!

On these occasions I enter the most logical answer but then 'cover all bases' by highlighting the other possible answers in red ink at the top of the grid and saying 'take your pick!'

Some weeks the clues are pretty tenuous....I'm convinced that the setter is smoking some exotic material :o)
