Filled up the grid (apart from the 2 unclued entries) pretty quickly, but I have no idea what the theme is.

Help, anyone?

Look at the title and the 8 letters in the clues in ascending order of numerical value.

Is there a simple way of finding the last 2 digits of a very large number (eg N^A)? Excel doesn't seem to cope!

There is a way using modular arithmetic, but you can also use this.

Thanks Cloverjo. It's a pity to have to resort to this for an answer but how do people manage without a computer? What's Answerbank like? I haven't heard of it.

It's a site where people ask questions and chat about all kinds of things. Its quite friendly and helpful. There is a section for crosswords and quizzes, but the people on the Listener thread frown on too much help being given, even hints, so I was a bit surprised the Wolfram link stayed up.
