I'm pretty sure 20d is so to speak the adverb form of one of the commonest of all short adjectives in English!
Does anyone have any ideas about my last one, 15a? The crossers I have produce nothing relevant that I can see. Just a hint perhaps,
And for 32 d there seem to be 2 alternatives for the 1st letter, both vaguely "relevant". Again a tip might help!

I now know all the unclued solutions could really only be recognized if you had the very latest edition of Chambers; and since the prize is exactly that, I find the puzzle pretty ridiculous, having spent all morning on it, sent it off to have a chance of it reaching London on time from abroad, then discovering several guessed solutions were (not sirprisingly) wrong. Cheap advertising for Chambers! I always assumed (naively) you had a chance of solving (& winning) a good crossword without buying SUCH special tools (the 11th edition is not enough). And so capitalism takes over even our little world of amusement. I think I'll take the opportunity at 70 to opt out of the Spectator Thursday battle if these are their methods. Ive enjoyed them for years, but this is grossly unfair! Am I alone in feeling this way???
