My favourite was the legendary anagram (appearing, of course, in a Christmas puzzle):
"O hark the herald angels sing the boy’s descent which lifted up the world",
which resolved to:
"While shepherds watched their flocks by night, all seated on the ground".

i've never been a fan of that type of clue, one which straddles the whole grid, but you had to smile at the blokes intellect. he had charm.
