Funnily enough Norman and Nigel both lived in the Isle of Man!

E Mantovani

I don't think he came from IOM, though.

great thoughts - these still missing or not sure of:

1 - A boatyard worker (9) - not sure anchorman is right - all other answers work back nicely but not sure this exactly fits with 'boatyard' - they could have used some other phrasing if they wanted 'anchor' - but it MIGHT be ok!

2 - This novel expert is always prepared (9,5)

3 - you may need this for a long journey (11) - although portmanteau fits 11 letters, again not sure if it really fits the clue, but it's better than anything I've come up with!

4 - I follow this band leader to his vehicle (9)

5 - Are women unwelcome in the grounds of this novel estate? (9,4)

Thanks again everyone - I never cease to marvel at your little grey cells! x

I should think MANDILION or MANDYLION is as likely as PORTMANTEAU
