Hi aristo,
Any more thoughts on bandmasters (jolan you might also like to have a gander at tieff7's post)?
How about Sway = mastery ( bend taken, lose the y) within bands = trains???. As you can see its still annoying me!

Yes, it's annoying, but it might just be a lousy clue.

Just got in from my long walk.
Welcome also Jazzy and andy.
Well done everybody. Ari had 4/5 and ginge polished it off. Here is my working:-

1. sound = noise; order = OM; nois(om)e = NOISOME = disgusting

2. row = din; “back” = nid; us = unserviceable (C.O.D); NIDUS = a nest or breeding-place (Chambers def)

3. family member’s failure to initiate = (r)elative = the ELATIVE case (see Chambers under “elate”)

4.”Latin” merely hints at Latin phrase; “?” because it’s not a “Latin pair”; anag (in motion) of “pair put requisition” = IURE PROPINQUITATIS = by right of relationship (Chambers def). I realise this is truly an “anagrind” but thought I’d bung it in this week to see how it goes. Sorry! :)

5. crack = solve; “not” hollow = nt; SOLVENT = sound (Ch. Thes,1st choice)
