This has been a really joyful challenge and I had to Google a couple of references.

I am all but done - am totally stuck on all three in the south west corner.

20dn + 22ac + 22dn

Any tips gratefully received as always.

22a is a pretty unusual word, but in Ch. of course!
It's dialect, and more often spelt with a "d" in the middle!

A real gem from the Master. The classic Araucaria experience. First read-through: "Eh?" Then one or two "Aha"s and some "ha, ha, ha"s. And finally a delighted smile and a satisified "Aaah!"

"...no wind farm! no swallows!" was a triumph, all the more so for showing the spirit with which he reflects wryly on his own circumstances.

A propos, can s'one explain to an exile here whether 15d is just a standard formula used by doctors, without reference to the book & film? Nothing in Chambers; Google only one example.
Perfectly understandable, but just never heard or seen it before in English (perhaps luckily)!

Question now answered elsewhere --- but is that film really necessary viewing as some reports suggest? Must admit I'd never heard of it.

Hi GK
Yes it is standard use in hospitals. It is placed on the bedhead of patients due for operations (so that they don't vomit under anaesthetic)

Don't like the "sound" of this crossword.

Cottage hospital - comfy - nil by mouth - time to go.

Sincerely hope my longtime favourite isn't giving latest news through a puzzle just as he did with original news of his illness.

Hope I'm wrong and can look forward to many more great puzzles.
