Thanks, Aristo.

About 4 more to go at the bottom.

Oh, THAT kind of straying. thanks for the hints.
I googled abbreviations for error and there were over 700!
Yes it is fun but I am struggling all the same. Does "back row" refer to American Football?

back row - just a typical cryptic indication - nothing to do with sports.

Rosalind re 28: def. is "speaker" (not a person -- think hi-fi); take the first preposition seriously, and the last word literally! OK?

Another nice puzzle, spoilt slightly by 7 but by elimination "a + c" have to be the unchecked letters giving lilacs. I couldn't find the solution posted but I'm interested to know if a comment accompanied the solution and whether such "slips" are more than occasional in case I end up tearing what's left of my hair out in future? That aside, loved 19 and 23 and it's not a reflection of my lifestyle, honest Guv!

You no doubt saw that this was mentioned earlier in this thread; it drove me nuts. I just looked at the Harper's archives and found:
NOTE: The clue for 7 was not an accurate reversal. The clue should have read
“Phone back around one Sunday for the Bushes.” Due apologies given.

Cheers aristo, I genuinely didn't read the comments on the thread until afterwards and spent quite a bit of time trying alternatives until adopting the approach of solving all the rest leaving "a +c". Hasn't put me off and I like the preamble giving the number of proper nouns and "foreign" words, our British "qualities" should consider doing the same!
