The clue is - Half the weight rooms in the continent (4)
The answer is Asia. No trouble about Asia being a continent, but the rest is obscure to my group.

The setter is a little sloppy with his word plays, but he is all we can get locally since the newspapers went on an economy binge and stopped taking the good setters.

Any help in clarifying the parsing.

Thanks

Hi Jabiru.
Did the same crossword today and I think Chrisg explained it perfectly.
If you're missing the "Stickler"crossword go to this link and you will find some. (Not sure if your newspaper gave them the same name, but it is the same setter).
Rupert Murdoch and his minions sacked the only decent Australian setter. What a shame!!

The Stickler released a PDF 6-pack of the new online puzzle recently. You can get it here:

Thank you Chris G Busby and Stig. Particularly Stig for the direction to Stickler's new venture. My U3A group was in contact with David when he was pulled from the paper, but we were not aware of his progress. Must provide support to keep him in business. Incidentally the plural gymnasia is obviously correct, but we have always called them gymnasiums. Better get my language right.

While gymnasia can be right, all my paper references list gymnasiums as the preferred plural usage. I'll still be using gymnasiums (verbally, not physically).
