I thought henna for second clue but can't see why.

Henna, orange - the 'layer' is (a) hen and the article is 'an', returned/reversed.

A moneylender... Lose Interest?

2 Hen (layer) + an (article) reversed - Henna

Study...Congo (in Africa) Con is study and go is leave.
