Last one. 24d. Long-distance runner, not fully fresh as of old (5). I have _iren so it looks like siren, but don't get the wordplay.

Thanks Sudokusolver. I didn't know virent. I have a vague memory of Lasse Viren - was he the one who underwent a blood transfusion after each race?
