Are you or your family threatened by these? There were some awesome and frightening pictures on British TV last night.

Hi Rosalind.
We are about 200kms away from the closest fire and the rest of our family, even further. We have friends that live in the midst of one of the worst affected areas,Yellow Rock, near Winmalee. We haven't been able to contact them and it wouldn't surprise me if they have lost their home. The fires are pretty bad and the weather at the moment isn't helping.
Yesterday two kids were arrested for lighting a fire further up the coast that burnt 500 hectares. On was eleven and as he and his father were leaving court they were photographed giving the finger. The kid was on bail for arson, assault, vandalism and had been expelled from school. With a father like that it's not surprising.
Hope you're all well.

It is so sad that kids think its ok to start fires but even sadder that the parents react that way. I wish you and everyone over there the very best of luck. I have been to the area on holiday and met some of the nicest, friendliest people on gods earth. To see the devestation being caused is truly heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you.

Hi Sunshinelady
It is very sad that some behave the way they do. Total disrespect for others. Generally speaking Aussies are a friendly mob and I hope you enjoyed your holiday here.Thank you for your kind words and I hope all is well and you are happy and healthy.
ps: How are you going with "metric conversions"?

I'm glad you're not threatened, Busby, though it is sad for your friends. I hope that they are safe, though I can't imagine having to watch the flames come nearer and nearer your home.
I feel sick hearing of lads and parents like that. The lad needs to get away from his father and learn some respect.
I'm fine, thanks. Am off to my mini-forest today, which will be soaking wet.
