I'm stuck on 10ac. Ladies innumerable liaisons initially dismissed (8). I've got ???N?E?S. Any thoughts, anybody?

Countess, maybe?
It's 'countless', innumerable, with the 'l' from liaisons removed (initially dismissed).

Good idea, malone, but aren't we looking for "ladies" rather than "lady"?

maybe the clue should have read or did read "Lady's innumerable etc" then countess would fit

I was hoping the 'ladies' was just a misprint - my answer seemed so good otherwise! (I tried to check the Herald crossword myself, but it's one you have to pay for/subscribe to if you don't have the paper).

Big Dave 's blog shows the clue as "Lady's" and the answer was countess
