Help!!!

Only filled about half the grid, and I'm really confused about the way the 1st half of I ("Things Roman go wrong") is shaping up.

Any hints for the theme?

I've got the same problem - lots of letter I. I don't think things will be clear until we have finished the first part of this crossword. Onwards and upwards........Keep in touch with how you're doing.

Keep going, all will become clear if you can get enough of the grid filled. I needed to keep re-reading the preamble.

demeter - the first part of I is one of the "three clues consisting of wordplay only ... with a core misprint"

Thanks.

Yes, Sussex, I suspected as much. Still a bit stuck though.

A: Queen accepted /two/ bishops? No good - people of fashion struck out /old/ bishop, locally not much valued (11)

Answers to these two would be a massive help.

Again the first part of A (which goes upto "people of fashion") is one of the three clues consisting of wordplay only. I didn't manage to solve any of these until I had worked out the theme!

At long last, I have actually completed the grid, and got the theme and the participants' names. I still can't solve the unclued entries, or see the thematic device.
