Oops, just noticed it says 11 letters - a misprint.

Could someone explain the wordplay for 31D:

Composer from Hungary tailed New Zealander (5) HENZE

Tried H+ANZA(c) for the longest time, which gave a different BEATLE across.

Thanks, ajh.

It works, in a way. Rather weak clue if that's what Doc intended. There were several lame ones. The Speccie has really slipped lately.

Could you try an experiment? After I changed the A to an E in 34A, I tried "HE?Z?" at

a last resort when I'm totally stuck.
Instead of a list, or suggestion to check my letters, I got a blank page.
I'm curious if that will be the result for someone else.

Cheers.
