How do I stop these pop-up adverts, I am using IE and don't have this problem with any other site I use.

Thanks

Robin

As far as I know, the adverts pay for the creation and maintenance of this superlative crossword site. To me, they're worth it.

They are easily deleted and are less annoying if you turn your sound down. As they pay for this excellent site I think it is worth putting up with them.

The ads at the right-hand side are not too bad, but it is a little frustrating trying to close the htc ad at the bottom, as it just returns again when I refresh the screen. But, as others say, without them, we would not have this free site. I don't have the sound switched on

Since I last posted, the bottom ad has gone away and stayed away

I can only reiterate what others have said. The adverts are essential to Ash as they pay for running and updating the site. All his staff have degrees in their particular expertise and as a result they can command high salaries, the money has to come from somewhere. Having said that, I agree that the ads are complete nuisances! The worst browser seems to be IE which is responsible a lot of the complaints we get. I use Firefox and get by without too much swearing.

If you go to PC Advisor website and search for Malicious Advertisements then you will find an article which I find rather worrying

It's not so much the ads themselves but their intrusiveness - inadvertently move the cursor over them or being a little slow to click to move to a different part of the forum and they take most of the whole screen.

Other sites have them, yes - but not so in your face as this one.

Search for Adblock Plus and install. It works on IE, Chrome & Firefox. I have no adverts whatsover unless I use and old laptop where I have not installed it (yet).
And to be honest IE has more risks than just a plague of adverts.
