Been out and about, and only got 1 and 5 before leaving. Tried to do something with (f)actor for 3 but couldn't see it. Popped in for Clueless but have to get back to doing my taxes (yikes!). Will ruminate while number-crunching...

Hi jolan
I am a southerner and would not have got #5 if I'd sat here for 100 years.
I convinced myself actor was right (silly me)
Like Chris I considered stonechat for #4 but only from the def, first and last letters. I thought it was your sort of word.
Thank you for a real challenge.

Well! What a surprise. This hasn't happened for ages. I'll put a few letters in and give it till 2100 (or so).

2. ?B?R?I?? (This is in Chambers as a US word)

3. ??M??

4. ??R??L??E

Hope I'm not dragging it out a bit too long?
Wouldn't want to lose any of you.

Very good, ChrisE. One of those transatlantic mental blocks again; aeroplane is in my vocabulary, but it's "under the radar". :) I did think of airplane for flier, but obviously the count was wrong. Duh. And I've never heard "aborning" used on the mean streets of New England. Perhaps I should get out more.

I think I've only some across it in a folk song - Joan Baez, possibly, but I can't quite place it.
