It moves people up and down in class, given time Ans Chairlift

Cl is class,down is fluffy hair, given is if, T for time.So, put hair in Cl, with if and t, giving chairlift for moving people up.

Me too. Suddenly it appeared at the top as Rusty had come to the rescue. I don't like these convoluted clues much though.

Yes, took a wee while to break it down, but that's the beauty of the cryptics!
I dont think it's a great clue, though, in my humble opinion!

I've never seen cl as an abbreviation of class.(just chlorine and centilitre)

Cl isnt given as an abbreviation for class in Chambers Dictionary, Rossim. It is, however, given as an abbreviation for class in Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary. I dont know about Collins Dictionary or any other dictionaries.

I agree, Rossim, I wouldnt be without my Chambers!
Bradford's Crossword Dictionary is very good, too.
