I have caribou, but ...

a) Cu with 'a rib' inside --- where does the 'o' come from ? Surely not o for of

b)a caribou might be an animal, but small it ain't

"of small" is o as in cat o nine tails etc?

The "small" applies to "of" shortened to "o" as in "Cock o' the North"
