Thank you savt. In between watching Downton Abbey I have got the answer to clue 44. Your 'hint' was brilliant.(ever thought about being a writer!)

Still can't work out the clue for no 72-any more help ?
Also help please for no 82,32 and 53.
Then hopefully finished !!

Just to check--does 87 begin with R ?

Afraid not a R for 87 - link with 80 perhaps. 72 could have been damaged by 78.

Could you help me out with some direction on 79 (my last one)? I am obviously being thick as it doesn't seem to be causing others any difficulty!

79 is a word meaning the residue left in a glass (ie don't try putting L into another word). It also has a connection with shoes. 33 is a breed of dog which also means a hint.
I am stuck on 32 - one of my last three. I cannot get Three Toed Sloth out of what passes for my brain nowadays.
