No ixion - I don't get the wordplay either, but my 19d is definitely right, according to the preamble to the puzzle.

Hi, just getting started on this so don't understand previous posts; all may become clear later. My question at the moment is 4dn. Although it doesn't affect further solving, do I have to wait to the end, add up the number forwards and backwards before I know which way round it goes?

13ac is in the same category. How do I decide?

I don't know what's wrong tonight, but I can't find the new genius by searching as I did for 109, AND the site won't let me log in even though I'm using the same u/n and password I used for 109 (yes, I've done all the usual checks). I've had to go back to the Guardian's technical help people. Why oh why is this so flaming difficult?

Ugh! I finally got to it via the archive service. But it still won't let me log in.

I'm not great at the technical stuff livs but I seem to remember using a different browser can help?

livs - have you tried google chrome?

The wordplay for 19D is brilliant. Think of "art" as in "thou art ...". Superb clue.
