You must have learnt a great deal then. What is the point of filling in the answers if you haven't achieved them yourself.
I see no problem in asking for help or a nudge in the right direction, or an explanation of a solution by which you can solve/understand the clue, but where is the satisfaction?

Neil the OP has now learned how those clues parse and has an insight into how the compilers mind works, that stands us in great stead for future.
We all had to start somewhere and we each have our own set of circumstances, this is a helpful site, not a place to criticise others.
