Thanks again, R. My answers are the same as yours. I've googled, tried anagram sites, all to no avail. I must be having lots of senior moments. I've also gone through Chambers with all possibilities. Is it in Chambers?
Thank you, R, for saving my sanity, but not my mortification. How does everyone else know such an obscure and hard-to-find word? I had tried quite a number of translation sites, to no avail. Thanks again.
Hi all, I don't think that anyone would know 22A, 15A without access to a search engine, what I found clever was the "two non-consecutive words" part, which point to the tongue required - especially 9A (literally)!!
Tig, for 23ac you need a translation of the theme word. This translation is found as an anagram contained in the clue - a jumble of letters found in a word, in this case.
Finally came here after beating my head against the wall with the * Acrosses.
Not sure what in your post kicked a neuron into action, but I now see what I was missing. (-;
It's all in the parsing!
