And "and" isn't spelled "snd" over here, by the way. My fingers are just too big.

1. bring (carry) + sup (drink) + the re + a + r (meRry) = BRINGS UP THE REAR = lags
2. homograph (“exactly like” { in appearance}). sounded = DOVE = a bird.
Dove (N. American) = dived (English). I dived off the pier yesterday. I dove off the pier yesterday. Which sounds more conversationally natural? Discuss!
Chambers Dictionary. Dove = ‘pat’ of dive. Sound(3) = To dive deep
Concise Oxford Dictionary. Dove = past of dive. Sound = to dive deeply.

3. (cryptic) m = minute (abbrev).surrounded by jams = holes. Chambers: hole (n) = a difficult situation = jam. (hole = jam and jam = hole, in Chambers and Oxford thesauri)
Yielding hol(m)es = HOLMES (Sherlock) a first-class cracker (the cryptic bit).
4. anag (dressing to) of ‘see stop-go’ = GOOSE-STEP
5. Homophone (articulated) of ‘coat’ = cover, yields COTE = a shelter for animals.

Indeed, Ari! And I dove into 'deep water' with today's clues also. (or should it that I dived into 'deep water'? Doesn't sound right, somehow)

Have a good week everyone and thanks a million for participating.

Bless

What a great night out Pastille - don't remember too much about getting home- a bit disappointed when I woke up to find I had apparently only managed to pull an old codger - so I 'dove' back under the duvet
