Just a point of info;I started senior school in 1969 and part of our first year curriculum was to read the book " a kestrel for a knave" and then go and see the film "KES"
Thanks again Les40.

You are indeed correct tonyw, A kestrel for a knave was the original book it was set on (which for some unknown reason, I haven't actually read) I wonder what our friends from over the pond think of it (aristo & Syzzie)?

When I used to work as a postie on night shifts, me and a mate used to quote the lines to other workers, they had no idea what we were going on about. If people were skiving in the brew room (including us) we would bellow "Slack work lad... slack work" and if people had different coloured coats on, we would always come out with the favourite "We'll be Spurs sir, so there's no clash of colours". It is strange what you resort to on long night shifts. Glad it took you back there tony.

Well done preterm and I'm glad not much happened today Les, though I expect you'd like it to be done with.
I thought Kes a wonderful film and wish kestrels would return here. They seem to have been ousted by mewing red kites everywhere.

Where are you Rosalind? That is an interesting comment about the birds.I am in North Cornwall at the moment and it mostly buzzards and the occasional owl with lots of songbirds.
Where I live in Enfield we have many kestrels, sparrow hawks and owls.

Thanks Rosalind, yeh I want it over with now, but I must wait for my appointment, hope I don't have to wait for ages again, the consultant said it shouldn't be as long this time.

Oh, so you have seen it aristo, what did you think? If you liked it, another film springs to mind that you may find a few chuckles watching, and that is "Rita, Sue and Bob too" It's an 80's movie set in a similar genre around Yorkshire.

And, can't believe this! I only twigged about 2 months ago that 'Rita' played by Siobhan Finneran, is Janice in the hit British TV comedy "Benidorm" (hope someone else hadn't realised that too)
