I must make an apology to Greedy Kite.
I am very sorry my friend, but I completely skimmed past your post 49. The reason being, that after reading pages 1,2 & 3, it became very busy with banter and I just scanned through looking for the bracketed number of letters (12) to make my vote. I just didn't have the time to read everything.
Maybe we should make it a thing for the future for people to add the bracketed number of letters at the end of each clue so if we're in a rush to make a vote, then the clue entries can be easily distinguished from the banter posts.
I will stick with my vote for Chrisg at post 9 because it is my preferred choice. but in future, this could cause problems when so many posts are on the thread (100 posts for 16 clues)
I like the banter, but maybe we need a tweak with the ruling.

What do the others think?

The fact that nine clues were chosen as favo(u)rites says a lot about the quality of this week's entries. Our winner is chrisg's excellent Post 9:
Ugly lemon curd left out became crusty (12)
with greedy kite's Post 49 a dangerously close second.
Here's your prize, chrisg. I tried to find a clip that ended with the Chiclets but couldn't.

I really liked a lot of these. I thought Torquemada's Post 4 was superb; one might think it was...you know, effortless. :)

While we're all dying for aristo to get his machine working again, just a short explanation about absinthe: in fact it's now legal again in France, but actually I was enjoying TEA --- and I don't mean that puzzle-solving equipment s'one mentioned here a few weeks ago! Just proves there's sometimes veritas without the vino.
btw must also apologize for the sin / crime of betraying Britain over 50 years ago --- not for France originally, but for GERMANY!!!I expect a lot more attacks now: don't disappoint me!

AQER: Did I post the results too early? We'll have to remind chrisg to change the preamble.
