I'm an idiot. It DOES deal with those who don't vote.

My apologies for intruding at length, but this contest is first and foremost for fun, and talk of "disqualification" seems a trifle excessive. Such a rule would not be fair to people who work irregular hours or who have different time zones. The notion of such a contest being an imposition seems at odds with the whole spirit of this site. Not "voting" would be a minimal advantage, but such an advantage would only be relevant in the event of a close vote. (i.e. one vote difference between two clues or a two way tie) In such an event, could it be that if one of the parties involved has not voted, their vote goes to the other party, rendering them either the winner or subject to the setter's judgement? In ties or close votes involving more than two clues we then enter a minefield of complexity and the setter should have the last word, taking into account the factor of some non-voters. I would not like to see a great clue dismissed because the setter was asleep or performing surgery.....

Why have any rules at all then? Why exclude those that don't enter, for instance? Isn't everyone else's opinion just as important and valid?

Hi Torquemada et al;

The point of the competition is to give a platform to those who take the trouble to compose a clue - hence PEER REVIEW.

I did consider opening the voting to everybody but that seemed inappropriate and unworkable if not far more open to abuse. Any additional rules would add an exponential level of comlexity as AB has noted. We can see how it goes, but hey - it's just a game! HAVE FUN!

Have fun...those were the last words you said Paul...and I like it!

The one thing that worried me about "this format" was the "post mortem".

And Torquemada has done exactly that.

His privilege, and not to be condemned...it what was expected.

Just hope the parsing the arse out of everything will discourage people having a go.

I am not saying this because mine one was deemed rubbish, because it was rubbish!

Sorry toots, just could not sleep and had to post...probably regret it in the morning.

I'm sorry if this question has been cleared up before but are we allowed to comment BEFORE the vote?

There is nothing about that (one way or the other) in the rules used so far, so feel free as far as I am concerned. Be warned, though, that criticism generally seems to have the density of a lead balloon.
