Happy New Year Mondrian.
Have just completed it, but it took longer than usual. Some were tricky ones for me.
Best wishes to all

A very Happy New Year everyone.
I'm still in the last stages of RT1
so I've yet to look at RT2.
I have special thoughts for Pipesmoker;
I hope you survived the shocking Scottish
weather without a disaster.
Best wishes,
N

Jazzgirl you are clever. I am stuck with the top left hand corner. Cannot get 1 or 2 down or 7 across and I haven`t got the RT with me so cannot even remember the clues now. Any hints please??

Hi Mondrian
1d (hint: it's a 2-word phrase meaning "necessary"
clue was: necessary to be in trouble with guider before raising regret (2,7)
2d (hint: it's a figure (number)
clue was: rowing crew still with no victory figure (8)
7a (hint: it' s word which covers TV,radio, newspapers etc.
Clue was: road backs on to sea channels (5)
I find it difficult to give hints, so sorry if this is of no help. If you want the answer let me know !

Not sure which crossword you are doing. I have just given hints for RT2. Are you still on RT1 ?

Jazzgirl. Thank you. I am indeed doing No 2 crossword. I did get 1D with great difficulty (I assume it is a French expression) but still cannot `see` the relevance of all bits of the clue especially the `eur` at the end of the answer. Again for No 2D I thought it was a number but do not `see` the relevance of the `victory` bit of the clue. Maybe the penny will drop on my way home. But thanks for your help.

Where are all our regulars? Hope they come back soon.

Hi Mondrian
Only just checking in for the first time today. 1d is indeed French. Part of the answer is an anagram of guider and you know the rest.
2d number of crewmen first + even (witout no v for victory)
Iknow the penny will drop on your way home ;)
Best wishes to you and all the others who seem to have done a vanishing trick !

me again. The "eur" at the end is rue (regret) backwards

Thank you Mondrian and Navigator, for your good wishes. Yes, as explained in another thread, we have come through the storm, which hopefully, will not return any time soon. I have just returned the wee gas stove to the cupboard, in the hope that it will not be needed these ten years.

I did RT2 at the start of the year, so have pretty well forgotten what it contained, but don't recall anything too obscure about it.

Anyway, it will be good to get back to normal, when the Radio Times drops through the letter box on a Tuesday, and I am not tempted to open a week early.

Hope all are well, and surviving the winter.

Best wishes.
