Hi Gang,
I have manage to solve THE SWEENEY far ,but I am stuck on the DI Inspector who was the lead character I just have ?a????? which the A I get is from 4 Down which is Hiawatha ,so far so good. 8 Down then is 11 letters Penny-pinchers , I think is cheese?????
Any help 1st. of all from SWEENEY avid's of the 70's and people who watch their penny's .

The DI in the Sweeney was Jack Regan played by John Thaw.

This is a misleading clue ,this DI was named HASKINS {a mate of mine as just told me, he has to be right , tells me he never missed one showing on telly! } so the penny -pinchers turns out to be CHEAPSKATES .
Might help others who are looking at this ?

Maybe Regan was a DS then. Sorry.

Frank Haskins = Chief Inspector (Garfield Morgan)
Jack Regan = Inspector (John Thaw)
George Carter = Sergeant (Dennis Waterman)
