Congratulations Pastille. It is only fitting that the winner should come from north of the Tweed.

mog made a fair enquiry and was completely ignored by the clique. So as someone who doe s not enter the competition any more I'll be polite. If you make up a clue and then notice it's similar to an existing entry of course it is valid but it doesn't look good. I don't doubt pastille's honesty for a moment but I think she was lucky. Please feel free to close ranks and hurl invective as usual.

Yes, Pastille WAS lucky - the Clueless judge liked her clue best!
I don't look at any Clueless answers if I'm working on a clue - and I just assumed everyone else did the same. It's only when you go to post your entry that you see what others have come up with - if there's anything similar, you can decide then whether it's worth posting yours.

I make up my clue before I look at the previous entries, as did mog. I am always amazed at how many types of clue there are. It is not surprising that some have the same method for the wordplay. At the end of the day it is up to the judge.

@jws, mog et al, I also make up the clue and have a quick look for similar ones, which is why I don't always post. It is only a bit of fun though, and to be fair we can all share the prize if we want to!

Hi all,

@mog, I think every body has their own "ways" and preferred methods of devising the clues. I personally find it better to not look at the others. A few weeks ago Siamcat and I had practicals the same clue...by sheer coincidence.

I love the fact that the clues can and often are so diverse.

Chips...The winners curse...oh dear! My laptop seems to be behaving today.

And the rambler...Yes I agree I was lucky.

I think rambler should change his name to Grumbler! (Does that count as invective)
