Anyone else doing this quiz? All the answers contain a river. I'm stuck on the following:
American happily dominated by another domestic pet in the Midlands (4,3)
Does Virginian bird spring and see actor? (5,7)
Jonson's description of the drab disorder (5,4,2,4)
Fishing tackle is intense round about Exmouth (5-4)
American banker leaps to command the air here (8,7)
Any hints much appreciated.

Are the rivers British or anywhere?

Hi Trina - don't have the quiz. When you say that the answers "contain" a river has the clue setter given an example or can you give us an example of an answer you already have to give us an idea of how the setter's mind works.
If you have shown the correct spelling of Jonson - could be something to do with Ben Jonson ... drab somtimes signifies "dressed as a boy". More info would be helpful for those without the quiz.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies and brilliant answers. These clues really had me stumped. This annual quiz is not posted on the internet but is another charity one, for children in Malawi mostly orphans whose parents have died from AIDS.
As far as I can make out, the rivers are anywhere in the world.

The American banker, how about
Colorado Springs?
