I’m going to risk being looked down upon and say that this was a total blast. I loved reading these clues; it’s truly fascinating to see the vastly different takes bright minds have on the same rather circumscribed task, from NeilM’s Nazi getting info from the underground to jws’s Junker short on charm (sweet!) to Lionheart’s beheaded Dunker (Hm. Then again, is anyone else seeing a pattern here?) to therogue’s caveman with a stunted crouch. And NICE touches: Francis’s “repel sun”, ixion’s “Has sent KerPlunk- no thanks!” (magnificent), Lionheart’s “underground rock fan”, and paul’s use of “infra dig”.

But I do have a favorite among the jewels: peterm’s “He loves keeping under? God, even I stay out.” I suppose it’s the obliquity that gets me, with its subtle shading- like “he loves” in connection with a word that implies amateurism- and just as subtle humor. I like the use of “stay out” to mean “stay, out” too, and of course the subtraction exercise itself is virtuosic.

Here’s your prize, peterm. (Whoa! Talk about a cave fan!)
