Crocket, 97 is an Old Testament reference. If you google both names you'll find a well-known OT person who was linked to these two and a third who is the answer to the clue.

I'm a late entry to this thread. References have been made to G&S (nautical) with regard to Q89, but I am struggling to find the relevant lines. Are they in Pinafore or Pirates? Or some other?

Hi all - it's me again. I have not seen any answer to solve the spelling of the answer to 53.
Chambers dictionary 10th edition (which is the one used by the fiendish Neville Mizzen!)states that the word can be written with a 'u' or 'v' in the centre of it. Seeing that the question refers to Ashley re curtains etc I have settled for the version with the 'u' in the centre. Does anyone agree with me please?

Yes Winnie the v is an alternate answer but doesnt fit in with the clue.
