Sorry Celadon,that is simply not true. A duck's quack does produce an echo.

Scientists have shown that the timing & sequence of sound frequencies emitted by a duck are such that the (slower) following sounds destructively interfere with the reflected (faster) sounds, thus causing silence.

Anyone who doubts it should travel at the earliest opportunity at their own expense to their nearest duck-inhabited, cliff-bound lake and hear - or, rather, not hear - for themselves.

Ducks also know this. They almost always quack twice as they they often don't hear their own first quack.
