I wish the person who calls himself terry only to say you shouldn't be asking would use his usual handle. Like I always say,if he believes what he is saying what is he afraid of.

Thanks Don but I'm not sure if it helps. This has to be the hardest crossword I have had to do in a very long time. I guess GOD enters into things with the modern novels but I must admit being at a loss about most of the rest !

Any other help gratefully received !

Izzywizzy,

explanation.
greek god = pan.
persian king = darius,without i = darus
= pandarus who fought for the trojans at troy.
pandarus was also a "go between" in shakespeares troilus and cressida.
rest of answer is anagram as you already know.

I'm so excited...I got my first clue ! 13,22...the first is a novel by Martin Amis and the 2nd is a kind of Aussie doggie, who wouldn't normally sleep on the bed. Can't really understand EXACTLY how it fits into the clue, apart from its an anagram. ( or maybe that IS the clue ? )

Anyway, just thought I would share my joy with you. If I hadn't been snowed in, I might not have got this far !

You've obviously got 13,22 right - but it's not one of the modern novels, it's the Kipling character. As the preamble says the 3 novels have a theological reference.

13,22 is from Kipling - somewhere.
