The preamble says that the 3 modern novels have a theological reference.
13/22 is not one of them - what theological reference is there? 13/22 is the Kipling character.
The 3 modern novels are: 9d/5ac, 20/22, 16/12.

Absolutely right JS. 13 AC is, however, a very good distractor. I do have difficulty regarding any works by the author of 16,12 as a novel, enjoyable hokum though they may be.

Can anyone help me on 26 across please? I've got the second half, but the first half (Pursue and deceive...) seems to come out as "dog con", which makes no sense to me!
