Sorry Ozzy, you're right, I meant 12a.

Despite all I said, I do actually remember him although never found him funny, but then a knee-high Bren was probably never his target audience. Now Marty Feldman on the other hand.... 🀣

The bits of sardine stuck in the corner of the tin are - for me - 36A and 31D. I am pretty sure they are both thematic clues, but there is so little checking help that I have ground to a halt. Disappointing as otherwise it’s been a fun solve.

Jockie, you're right, they are both thematic. In 36a, the definition is the last three words and it's thematically paired with 8d. In 31d, the definition is the first three words, wordplay is two single letters followed by a synonym for almost with one letter substituted. It's thematically paired with 10a

Ozzy, is 10a originally 10 letters with the definition being (hand held) "video equipment".

Yes. And the thematic replacement is for the middle four letters.

Many thanks Ozzy.

I haven't figured out the thematic modifications yet. For example my 31d is 6 letters but with only 5 spaces and with you mentioning only replacing 4 letters in 10a it looks like I still have a lot of work to do.

I will definitely be back:-)

That said, with the noise outside my flat and the letters I have so far in Row 1, I can hazard a pretty good guess at the theme.
