18a Angry snake finally going for naturalist (6)
d?r?i?
Looks like 'Darwin'.

38a Corporate entity supporting school no matter what (7,7)
First word looks like 'holding' so I'm guessing 'holding company'. Holding = supporting, but can't parse the rest.

38a The bits you're missing are 'comp' for 'school' and 'any' for 'no matter what'.

As for 18a, I also struggled with this. I concluded that 'angry' was 'dark' and 'snake' was 'wind'. Removing the last letter from each would give us 'Darwin'.

Thanks zinc, can't say I like angry = dark.

I agree. The closest I could get was a dark/angry sky or a dark/angry mood. I'm also not convinced that 'no matter what' can be replaced with 'any' in a sentence but I'm happy to be proved wrong!
