Just out of interest, having already finished the crossword, I took that PDF and asked ChatGPT to turn it into a puz file. It did pretty well. It got the format wrong first of all, but corrected it with some prompting and I was able to load it into squares dot io.

Probably easier than wrestling with the observer website trying to get the puzzle to display.

Tricky today. Completed but can’t parse second word in 25a or second word in 20a. I got the answer to 16a but don’t really understand the clue……

Thanks plutocrat but my antivirus is taking great exception to that link 😄 probably the usual nanny-state overreaction from the software, but I didn't continue. On another tack, is it me or are there a lot of anagrams in today's puzzle?

16a anagram of most of Niagara with gravity symbol, 20c is 20th Century.

nicoladawn 25a has a snooker shot that I would refer to as a “cushion” shot - maybe the word used here is more common in pool?

Hi Nicola. in 20A, words 2, 3 & 4 define the second word of 20 across which you need to pronounce slightly differently.

I'm still stuck on 6 & 14 D, and 19A.
