Solving time says "gentle", but plenty of tricky and fun clues.
FOI 1, LOI 8A.

COD tie between 8a and 3, narrowly over 11, 4 and 2. Five more on the long list.

Can't see a theme or Nina.

So many contenders for COD. I’d add 8a, 11a, 13a and 20a to ilippu’s list, just for starters.

Thanks to Fed for a Prize that, thankfully, I found mostly on the gentle side but still very enjoyable with some surfaces that were smooth, clever and witty

That said, there are 3 clues I've yet to fully parse, although the answers are clear from the crossers and definitions:-

10a - I get the "10 on table" definition, and notice that "11(a)" contains the answer, but that's "in" 11 not "on".

4d - I can see a 3 letter (or could it be 6?) "were in front of" that is clearly "fenced", but not by any word I've ever seen - certainly not one meaning "lower".

21d - My answer means "discourage" but, even though there's only a few candidates, I'm not sure word it's "half of (it)". If it's "try" then that is present tense which would make it 9 letters not 10

COD: Think I'll go for 17a.

4d: definition "abandoned", parses as [3,2] inside 4. The 4 is "lower", the 3 "in front of" and the 2 is a word in the clue. "Lower" is a noun, younger version of a frequent crossword guest.

21d parses as 1 inside 4. The 4 is pretty clear, and the 1 is "half of it".

10a: Look carefully at the solution to 11 across!

Okay thanks Geeker, I'm still not clear on 10a though.

I know the answer appears in 11a, but like I said, it's "in" it not "on" it - or I've completely misunderstood you.

It's too early for spoilers so perhaps it's best to leave it until later. Who knows, by then I might even have worked it iut:-)

Unless it's 2,2 in 11a with the first 2 being its abbreviation?

I see the ambiguity, brendan. I think 11a has to be involved (which would be rather clever!) but it's not so clear.
