Excellent puzzle (as always) from Chalicea; and rather harder than some of her offerings, I thought. And - shock, horror! - no Chalicea line! Once the PDM came, the title raised a smile; and, if I hadn’t had the reassurance of Wikipedia, I would have sworn blind that 45 was a character from a forgotten Gilbert and Sullivan operetta.

Yes, Jack, quite a change - and a very welcome one. I appreciated the tougher clues and I was delighted not to see the Chalicea line. I sometimes solved puzzles with my eyes half shut so that I didn't see the significant stuff too soon! I was quite happy with 'every second clue...' as that made things a bit speedier.
