Poet Auden abridged Orwell G defends?

I have the answer as 'Baudelaire' which fits with Auden being abridged and Blair (as in Eric Blair aka Orwell) surrounding it. But how does that final E fit?

If George Orwell is displayed as Orwell G, then Eric Blair would be displayed as Blair E

I think it's just that Orwell G(eorge) is Blair E(ric)
